ZPCS expands footprint in education sector

Story by Tapiwa Machemedze

THE Zimbabwe Prisons and
Correctional Services (ZPCS) has expanded its footprint in education through the takeover of Gwakwe Primary School from Guruve Rural District Council to adequately cater for officers’ children.

The ZPCS has taken over the running of Gwakwe primary school to enhance the quality of education for learners in the community and officers’ children.

The drive to improve ZPCS officers within their areas of deployment has seen the force taking over the running of Gwakwe Primary School from Guruve Rural District Council.

The move has been applauded by the local community.

“We are most grateful to the ZPCS and as the local community we will work with them to ensure development of the school continues. We have heard the challenges facing the school and we will work hard to overcome them,” said a community member.

Another said, “We are optimistic the takeover of this school will enhance development, for instance our children used to travel to far away schools without transport but the ZPCS will assist us in this endeavour with their trucks.”

ZPCS also built a new classroom block at the school and it was commissioned by Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo on Friday.

“Education is the key that unlocks opportunities so the takeover running of this school will buttress provision of that important service in the community thus uplifting our province. The school was run by Council which is an arm of government and now being run by the ZPCS which is another arm of government so we will continue working with both parties,” said Magomo.

ZPCS Commissioner General, Moses Chihobvu committed to support government’s development programmes, “Most of the children we have at the school are officers’ children so that is what has motivated us to run this school. Moreover, our President Dr. ED Mnangagwa’s mantra is leaving no one and no place behind so we are committed to leave child behind in attaining education.”

Gwakwe has since been rebranded to Guruve Prison Primary School becoming the third ZPCS educational facility in the province.
