Football legends offer moral support to the Warriors

Story by Mthokozisi Dube, Sports Reporter

ZIMBABWEAN football legends, led by former captain, Peter Ndlovu have offered moral support to the national team after attending the Warriors’ training session at the Wits Sports Complex in Johannesburg, South Africa this Wednesday.

The pain of having to fulfil a home match away from home and grinding results to keep pace with the leading pack is the task that lies ahead for the Warriors who have two back-to-back World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa.

Having been in the same predicament and delivered when it mattered the most, Warriors legends and former national team players including Peter Ndlovu, Alexander Maseko, Edelbert Dinha, Tapuwa Kapini and Kingston Nkatha took time to offer psycho-social support to the boys during their training session at Wits Sports Complex.

“We felt that we should come and have a pep talk with the boys and make them believe that the whole nation is pinning their hopes on them. We believe this will motivate the boys ahead of the clash with Lesotho,” said Peter Ndlovu.

Warriors’ benefactor, Zororo Phumulani has also set the stage for grand attendance of the games by Zimbabwean football fans.

“We will keep supporting our national teams and we are mobilising for the SA game,” said Zororo Phumulani’s executive marketing manager, Tendai Mangoti.

The Warriors received a boost after the arrival of Teenage Hadebe who promised nothing but the best.

“A lot of people are talking about the Bafana game but at the moment, our focus is on Lesotho. We want to break history by qualifying for the World Cup,” said Hadebe.

Another confident player is Highlanders’ defender Andrew Mbeba.

“It is good that I have gone through the junior structures and found my way into the senior team. What is left is for me to prove my worth by contributing to the team.”

The Warriors will face Lesotho at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg before facing South Africa in Bloemfontein four days later.

The team will shift base to the Free State Province on Sunday after a banquet with Zimbabwe’s envoy to South Africa, Ambassador David Hamadziripi.
