THREE-time champions Nigeria will clash with Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals after the two sides overcame their opponents in their round of 16 clashes on Saturday.
Nigeria and Angola were in a bullish mood on Saturday as they knocked out Cameroon and Namibia to set up a quarterfinal clash on the 2nd of February.
Angola kicked off the round of 16 matches in style with an emphatic three-nil victory over Namibia at Stade Bouaké, while Nigeria capped the day off with a two-nil drubbing of Cameroon.
Angola took the lead inside 38 minutes despite playing with a man less before Gelson Dala completed his brace four minutes later after Namibia were also reduced to 10 men.
A curled strike from Mabululu completed the rout as the Parancas Negras marched all the way to the last eight with their biggest victory in an official match.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles picked up the tempo from where Namibia left, as Ademola Lookman scored a brace to sink neighbours Cameroon.
The Indomitable Lions failed to use their possession advantage, failing to fire a shot on target as their stay in Cote d’Ivoire came to an abrupt end.
Meanwhile, the battle to qualify to the quarterfinals continues this Sunday as Equatorial Guinea and Guinea clash at 7 pm in a Guinea derby, while it is the clash of the titans at 10 pm when Egypt face off with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
