GREEN Fuel is expanding its sports portfolio to cater for different groups within its community, with new sports codes on the cards in Chisumbanje.
The Chisumbanje-based organisation already runs two professional teams in netball and football.
The netball team Green Fuel Angels is making waves in the Premier Netball League where they currently sit third on the 20-team log, having lost just one match this season.
The Angels also provided two players, versatile mid and front-court player Nicole Muzanenhamo and shooter Thandazile Ndlovu to the country’s senior netball team, the Gems, which took part in the 2023 Netball World in South Africa.
On the football side, Green Fuel FC affectionately known as ‘Boys dze Nharo’ were promoted to the Premier Soccer League this season and currently lie on the 8th position with 12 games to go.
The team also made history when it took topflight football to Chisumbanje for the first time in Zimbabwe’s history after hosting Sheasham on Saturday at the newly refurbished Green Fuel Stadium.
However, the organisation is not stopping there.
“Our netball team is doing well, and our football side will soon be counted amongst the most competitive in the league and that’s what we also intend to see in other sporting codes that we are setting up. Everything should be in place by the end of this year and our teams should start competing in the local leagues starting next year because the idea is to bring entertainment and recreation to this community,” said Green Fuel community relations manager, Ms Merit Rumema.
The club intends to set up volleyball, handball, basketball, and swimming teams and already a volleyball technical team is being sought.
Chisumbanje is in Chipinge district, 500 kilometres away from Harare.
