Danhiko Paralympic Games hailed by athletes

Story by Raynald Ngwarati

ATHLETES with disabilities have hailed the Danhiko Paralympic Games for affording them a platform to showcase their sporting capabilities.

Participants smile as they prove that disability is not inability, with their different conditions they showcase their ability to participate in sport.

Thanks to the 33rd Edition of the Danhiko Paralympic games, happy faces summarised the day’s events as people with disabilities from around Zimbabwe converged in Harare for the four-day event.

A day before the games end, the Paralympians are grateful for the opportunity they have been afforded ahead of the Paris 2024 Paralympics.

“The games are exciting from the day we came here up until now it’s really exciting.

“With the price money, we will be able to repair our wheelchairs and also buy wheelchairs that suit the sport.

“If given a chance to showcase our talents we can qualify for the Paralympic games next year,” said participants.

The tournament has registered a significant improvement from 2022 when only 25 teams participated at the games thanks to the coming on board of corporates to support the event.

Offering a chance for the scouting of players likely to represent Zimbabwe at the Paralympics in Paris next year, the tournament features 44 teams from all the country’s ten provinces.
