Solar project transforms learning landscape in Binga

Story by Tichaona Kurewa

MODERN learning facilities are increasingly becoming a reality in Binga, with 10 schools having been solarised in the district.

The transformative solar project saw 10 schools being electrified in the district through support from government and its partners, providing the much needed conducive learning environment in the area.

The learners are appreciative of the benefits of the initiative.

“We are now able to do practical computers lessons whereas in the past, it was only theory,” said a learner.

“The computers help us to do proper research of our school work,” noted another.

The solar system has opened a world of opportunity for both students and teachers with internet services now available at the school and staff retention now high.

“The solar system is quite helpful, we are now able to do some evening lessons and computer studies. We are also now in a position to print even our examination scripts and any other documents,” said Zambezi Secondary School Headmistress, Ms Thabita Mzambi.

The solar project covers 12 social institutions in Binga District which consists of 10 schools, including Zambezi Secondary School, a clinic and Zimbabwe National Water Authority offices.

The solar systems are expected to boost pass rates and the uptake of science subjects in Binga District.
