President underscores continued implementation of people centred policies

Story by Wellington Makonese

THE President and First Secretary of ZANU PF, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa says the party should continue to deliver people-centred policies to drive development across the country.

He was speaking during the ZANU PF National Consultative Assembly in Harare this Friday afternoon.

The 24th National Consultative Assembly of the ruling party, ZANU PF roared into life this Friday where members from across the country deliberated on policy initiatives guiding the national development agenda.

President Mnangagwa took time to enunciate the party’s position feeding into the national development strategy.

“The resounding victory by our revolutionary mass party stands as a testament of the continued confidence the people of our country have in our leadership. We are a party which is wholeheartedly pursuing a people-centred national development agenda, which leaves no one and no place behind. We remain guided by our rich liberation war heritage and the ideology bequeathed to us by the founding fathers and luminaries of our great party. To this end, the ZANU PF-led Government is advancing programmes and projects that entrench the true meaning of independence, sovereignty, dignity and integrity,” he said.

The ruling party’s pro-people policies initiated under the Second Republic have resulted in wheat self-sufficiency and macro economic stability in the country.

He added, “To date, unprecedented successes have been recorded throughout all sectors of the economy as a result of people-centred and responsive policies. The timeous implementation of programmes and projects have seen an improved quality of life and social services for our people, especially those at the grassroots level. Many are being lifted out of poverty. In spite of the continued illegal economic sanctions and the numerous attacks attempted on our economy, we are marching forward. Macro-economic stability and increased foreign direct investment inflows have seen our recognition as the fastest-growing economy in our region.

The people of Zimbabwe are commended for embracing the various economic development initiatives being pursued by our party-led Government, particularly the widespread acceptance of our Zimbabwe Gold-backed currency. With regards to agriculture, the Presidential Climate Smart Pfumvunza/Intwasa programme, agriculture mechanisation, irrigation development, and various other input support schemes are ongoing and guaranteeing national food security and sovereignty. Further, to mitigate against climate change, the Presidential Borehole Drilling Programme will see each of our 35 000 villages getting a borehole and nutrition garden.”

Cde Mnangagwa also spoke on government initiatives to attract more foreign direct investment into the country, emphasising that national interests should always come first.

“The ZANU PF government has also implemented policies that have seen unprecedented investments in the mining sector, these include Manhize Iron and Steel plant, lithium and using our own resources for development.  The Heritage Hub calls upon us to deploy collective wisdom to advance the national development agenda. Our national interests and the well-being of the people of Zimbabwe are at the core of our policies and programmes. Therefore, I assure this house that the Second Republic will never betray the revolution and the party will not die in our hands,” said the President.

The ZANU PF National Consultative Assembly was held after the Central Committee and Politburo meetings conducted earlier this week.
