In Chimanimani, the beginning of the academic year brought joy to resettled Cyclone Idai survivors after Runyararo Primary School opened its doors to the first group of students.
The opening of the new school comes as a huge relief to the resettled community where learners were travelling long distances to the nearest school.
One of the students said, “I am very happy with the establishment of this school because I used to travel long distance to Chayamiti Primary which is a distant from our settlement.”
“We are grateful to the government because our area is developing. We now have decent accommodation, a modern health facility, a school, running water among other developments,” said another student.
The excitement is not limited to students as school authorities and parents were also in a celebratory mood.
Runyararo Primary School Head, Mr Godfrey Kwarire said, “We have now enrolled 40 students as of this morning which means we are on the right track. Our parents and pupils are here clearing the facility.”
“As parents, we welcome this development which has been facilitated by the government. Our area is slowly getting on the map and this school is a relief and a fulfilment towards that goal,” said Runyararo Primary, SDC Chair, Mr Arthur Chingwaru.
The government has so far established a modern health facility and a school in addition to improving the water reticulation system for resettled Cyclone Idai survivors at Runyararo farm in Chimanimani.
