Media fraternity pledges to support the development of the education sector

Story by Peter Chivhima

THE Government is reviewing the Competence Based Curriculum Framework for primary and secondary education, to assess implementation and identify gaps which need attention.

As part of the review process, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is engaging various stakeholders in the education sector to ensure a comprehensive assessment.

A media engagement which ended this Thursday in Darwendale, Mashonaland West Province saw journalists from various media houses applauding the government for prioritising the education sector and pledging to ensure newsrooms prioritise the sector in their reportage.

The Competence Based Curriculum Framework review process is predicated on a seven-year cycle to continuously adjust and improve the education system in light of emerging national and global socio-economic trends.

“We are meeting with journalists from different media houses to discuss the issue of curriculum review so it doves tails with the country’s vision of becoming an upper middle-income-economy by 2030.

“So we thought it very ideal for us as a ministry to engage with the media so that they take what we have discussed here to the general public also remember that we are doing today will also determine our future,” said Mr Taungana Ndoro the Director Communications and Advocacy, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.

The review comes after the current curriculum framework ended its seven-year cycle last year and will inform the next curriculum framework which is expected to run from 2023 to 2030.

The government is rolling out several initiatives to transform the country’s education sector such as building more classroom blocks, electrification of rural schools and introducing information communication technologies in schools.
