THE country’s heritage sites have been identified as vital cogs in shaping Zimbabwe’s history and future.
The cultural heritage project at the 100-acre Museum of African Liberation site in Warren Park, Harare, is expected to play an important role in the country’s education sector.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Honourable Torerayi Moy, who toured the site this Monday noted the importance of heritage sites in the nation’s history and future.
“I am very grateful for visiting this site today on a familiarisation tour to appreciate the scope of the project. What is most critical to my ministry is that there’s a cultural centre which is of paramount importance to the students. Students need to know the history of their nation. It is also important for students to tell their own historical stories.”
Project implementers, Institute of African Knowledge Chief Executive Officer Ambassador Kwame Muzawazi highlighted the scope of the project and disclosed that the main structure is expected to be complete by the end of next year.
“There are several projects with the main project being the museum. In terms of the museum’s completion, we are at 18% but in terms of other projects like the heritage village we are already at 100%. If all goes as planned, we expect the full completion to be by the end of 2025,” said Ambassador Muzawazi.
Upon completion, the project will comprise a five-star hotel, amusement park, Zimbabwe Defence Forces exhibition park, a zoo and a shopping mall.
