Following the establishment of a joint committee by the government to manage the affairs of Caledonia, the budget formulation process for the settlement is underway with the joint committee established by the government in 2021 working closely with the Goromonzi Rural District (RDC) to come up with the database to enable the collection of revenue from residents.
Goromonzi RDC chief executive officer, Mr Trust Madhovi told a full council meeting held at the head office this Thursday that the government has advised them to incorporate the Caledonia budget into that of Goromonzi RDC.
“The government has since advised us to consolidate the Caledonia budget into that of Goromonzi RDC as we finalise other logistical issues,” he said.
The government has also been engaged to provide the database.
Goromonzi RDC Chairperson Alderman Brighton Sanyika said, “We have since contacted the government regarding this issue which we are taking as a priority because we need the database to enable us to collect revenue.”
The government set up a joint committee in 2021 through a gazetted statutory instrument and the committee is made up of councillors from Goromonzi RDC, Harare City Council and Ruwa Local Board.
Its mandate is to manage and regularise the settlement.
