FORMER ZBC News presenter, Vicky Maponga is breaking new ground after being honoured in the United States of America for raising awareness on mental health.
Seasoned broadcaster, philanthropist and health advocate, Vicky Maponga won gold in the health and wellbeing category for her mental health awareness initiatives.
After outshining more than 30 participants from around the globe, Maponga dedicated the award to all Zimbabweans who voted for her, adding that it is a wake-up call to all that mental health is a critical subject for discussion.
“I want to thank you Zimbabweans for voting for me. This award is for you and me. Specifically, this award goes to anyone who is thinking or contemplating committing suicide and anyone who is depressed. I want to say to you, I tried all that but that very thing that wanted to kill me is the foundation that I am standing on today which God is using to assist people. If I did it you can also do it too. So pursue your dream and purpose and never give up on life,” said Maponga.
The Women Changing the World Awards presented by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and Oprah Winfrey’s guest, Dr Tererai Trent celebrate and recognise women for outstanding works in areas such as sustainability, humanitarian work, leadership and advocacy.
