ZIMBABWE shines as a beacon of hope for children during the 43rd Ordinary Session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.

Led by the Minister for Justice, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, Hounarable Ziyambi Ziyambi,  Zimbabwe reiterated its fervent dedication to upholding, promoting, and fulfilling the rights of every child, in alignment with regional and global human rights standards.

“In line with Article 1 of the Children’s Charter, the Government of Zimbabwe continues to implement Constitutional, Legal, and Administrative measures to eliminate discrimination against children,” he said.

He added, “We are guided by the rights contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and core international and Regional Human Rights Treaties that the country is party to.”

Over the last three decades, Zimbabwe has tirelessly worked to enhance the well-being of children by prioritising the protection, promotion, and fulfillment of their rights. The nation’s commitment is exemplified through the continuous alignment of national laws with the Constitution, ensuring children are shielded from all forms of abuse, exploitation, and neglect. Legislative advancements like the Children’s Act, the Marriages Act, and the Guardianship of Minors Act have propelled Zimbabwe forward in safeguarding the rights of its children.

Zimbabwe’s approach is the core principle of non-discrimination, where every child is entitled to equal treatment before the law, irrespective of their background or circumstances. The government’s efforts extend to ensuring full accessibility for children with disabilities, promoting inclusivity in schools and public spaces through the implementation of the National Disability Policy.

In the pursuit of economic, social, and cultural rights for children, Zimbabwe’s commitment is exemplified through policies such as the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) and comprehensive approaches like school feeding programs.

The Honourable Minister reiterated, “Our dedication to economic, social, and cultural rights underscores our vision for a future where every child has the opportunity to fulfill their potential.”

Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, Zimbabwe continues to collaborate closely with stakeholders to ensure the realisation of every child’s rights and create a brighter future for the nation.
