ZIMBABWEAN musicians continue to attract regional attention with the latest being gospel musician Everton Mlalazi who has been nominated for the prestigious CLIMA Africa Awards set for October in Lagos, Nigeria.
The multi-lingual artiste has been nominated for the Africa Gospel Artiste of the Year Award and is also in the Africa Best Male Gospel Artiste category.
Mlalazi will battle it out with other gospel heavyweights from the region including Nigeria’s Mercy Chinwo, Winnie Mashaba from South Africa, Janet Otieno of Kenya, and Piese Esther in the Africa Gospel Artiste of the Year category.
The Zimbabwean gospel musician is also in the same category as Nigeria’s Nathaniel Bassey, Joe Mettle from Ghana, and Testimony Jaga after being nominated for the Best Male Gospel Artiste category.
“I didn’t expect this, I am grateful. I’m in awe and grateful to God for the recognition. This shows that our music is being recognised outside our country’s borders which is good for our industry. This also encourages us to continue working hard. I’m grateful to my team and fellow musicians. I’m humbled to get recognition in Nigeria, a country full of exceptional talent,” he said.
Mlalazi has shared the stage with various African artists including Sinach and collaborated with others like Grammy award-winning outfits, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Soweto Gospel Choir.
Meanwhile, the “Pfugama Unamate” singer is set to release a hymnal album dubbed “Virtual Hymns with EM and Worship Therapy this weekend.”
