Zimbabwe takes on Uganda in Kampala at Rugby Africa Cup

Story by Jeffrey Murimbechi

THE Zimbabwe senior rugby team, the Sables are hoping to upstage the hosts in their backyard as they face Uganda in a crunch Rugby Africa Cup encounter in Kampala this Saturday.

Zimbabwe last won the trophy in 2012, which is also a key stage in the pathway to earning a place at the 2027 World Cup.

The tournament will see nine teams, including Zimbabwe, vying for the top spot.

Coach Pieter Benade is pleased with the team’s preparations, particularly the mix between the local contingent and the foreign-based players who have bolstered the squad.

The team captain reaffirmed the squad’s burning desire to go all the way in the tournament.

A victory over Uganda will see Zimbabwe progressing to the semi-finals where they will face either Namibia or Burkina Faso
