Zimbabwe set to host India for a five-match T20 series in July

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

CRICKET fans are in for a treat after India confirmed their tour of Zimbabwe for a T20 series from the 6th to the 14th of July.

Cricket’s biggest nation India last toured Zimbabwe two years ago for three One Day International matches at Harare Sports Club.

Commonly referred to as The Spice Boys, India will be back in Zimbabwe for five T20 matches at Harare Sports Club from the 6th to the 14th of July.

Apart from the anticipated revenue, which is expected to boost Zimbabwe Cricket coffers, the fans are in for a treat watching the Men in Blue up close.

“It’s good that the biggest nation is coming to Zimbabwe and that is a huge windfall because of the TV rights, it’s sad that the tour comes just after the World Cup so India will probably rest one or two stars, but all the same India is a huge attraction and most of the IPL stars will surely be there so I expect a spectacle for the fans. What is left is for the team to pull up its socks and try to match the International teams,” said Cricket expert, Dean du Plessis.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Cricket has sent a Zim A Women’s side to Rwanda for the Kwibuka Women’s T20I tournament.

The second-string Lady Chevrons side joins national teams from Botswana, Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, and the hosts in the annual tournament which started in 2014.

The ladies’ side includes nine Under-19 players, with the trio of senior internationals captain Chiyedza Dhururu, Loryn Phiri, and Kelis Ndhlovu providing experience.
