ZIMBABWE and Iran are exploring ways of deepening ties, particularly in the health sector as the two countries seek to improve people’s livelihoods.
Relations between Zimbabwe and Iran continue to deepen, with the two countries having signed several memoranda of understanding in various health-related sectors.
Emerging from a closed-door meeting with Vice President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga this Tuesday, Iranian Ambassador to Zimbabwe His Excellency Abbas Navazani the focus was on skills and technology transfer.
“Strides made in the health sector and Iran has a huge potential to cooperate with Zimbabwe in medicine and medical equipment and so we had a fruitful meeting on how we can practicals our agreements in areas of exporting medicine and localise medicine and medical equipment as well transferring technology to Zimbabwe especially ahead of state visit soon,” he said.
Vice President Chiwenga also met Zambia’s top envoy to Zimbabwe His Excellency Derick Livune where discussions centred on projects being pursued by the two countries, including the Batoka Hydroelectric Power Station.
“We have excellent relations that are very historical and we have areas of cooperation that include the Kariba Dam that benefits both countries, the Batoka Hydroelectric Power Station as well as memorandum of agreements in the lower Zambia in tourism, we also have intentions of constructing a railway into Zambia from the Lion’s Den, the Kanyemba border is another since we have moved the pontoon to Kanyemba to assist since the construction the Kazungula border and we hope to ensure we get the maximum benefits between the two countries,” he said.
The Second Republic is on a drive to engage and reengage the family of nations while also marketing the country’s massive investment opportunities to potential investors.
