Warriors crush out of COSAFA Cup

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

ZIMBABWE has bowed out of the 2024 COSAFA Cup after a two-nil loss at the hands of Kenya in their final Group B match played at the Isaac Wolfson Stadium in South Africa this Tuesday.

It was a monumental fall for Zimbabwe from the top of the group to being eliminated at the ongoing 2024 COSAFA Cup.

The Warriors went into the match as group leaders on six points and needed just a draw to progress to the semifinals of this year’s tournament.

However, with the nation’s hopes high, the Warriors connived to disappoint after putting up a below par performance, falling two-nil to Kenya.

Zimbabwe let in two seconds half goals that were defendable to sign out of the tournament on a low note, while neutrals had put their money on the Warriors.

Comoros, Kenya and Zimbabwe all finished on six points each, but Comoros qualified because of a better head to head after all the three team were ranked.

The Warriors finished on a minus one goal difference on the head to head of the three teams, meaning they bow out of the tournament.

Comoros progressed to the last four as group winners, while Kenya will wait for results from Group C to know their fate.
