A self-proclaimed prophet, Gift Mushonga has appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court facing two counts of rape.
Instead of being a blessing and a gift to his community in Maro village, Domboshava, the controversial figure known as Madzibaba Gift Mushonga betrayed the trust of two women, allegedly raping them on separate occasions under the false promise of delivering them from the evil splits.
The Harare Magistrates’ court heard disturbing allegations this Saturday that the self-proclaimed prophet Mushonga allegedly subjected the two women to rape and sexual exploitation at his shrine, a sacred place of supposed refuge and solace.
It is also reported that the first victim had gone to Madzibaba Mushonga on the 9th of this month to be blessed so that she can travel to her rural home safely but this turned out to be a nightmare after she was raped.
The court also heard that the following day, Madzibaba Mushonga allegedly raped another woman at the same shrine.
Madzibaba Mushonga was advised to apply for bail at the High Court and will be back in court on the 26th of this month.
