The SADC Electoral Advisory Council also met other key stakeholders including senior ZANU PF officials as Zimbabwe prepares for elections.

Briefing journalists, SADC Electoral Advisory Council representative Justice Ticheme Dlamini said they had a fruitful engagement with the ZANU PF leadership.

“We had a fruitful and informative engagement with the leadership of ZANU PF. We hope that upcoming elections will be dispute-free elections, prepare a report,” he said.

The SADC team is yet to meet with other stakeholders to come up with a comprehensive report.

“We are still to meet other Electoral stakeholders including opposition political parties, army police, CSOs, churches, UN, AU and many other electoral stakeholders, consolidate the views from stakeholders to at least make a conclusion and it’s only meant for SADC,” he said.

ZANU PF Secretary General Dr Obert Mpofu said the discussions were candid.

“We had a fruitful meeting with our colleagues from SADC regarding our elections, the team raised a lot of issues regarding the preparedness for July/August elections,” he noted.

The SADC electoral team will be in Zimbabwe until the 18th of this month.

Zimbabwe is set to have general elections in July or August this year.
