France-based prop Victor Mupunga has joined the Zimbabwe Senior Men’s Rugby side, the Sables, for their training camp ahead of the Africa Cup slated for Uganda later this month.
Mupunga who turns out for French Club Nuits-Sait-Georges, joins a largely locally based squad that is preparing for continental honours.
The experienced Mupunga who played in the last Africa Cup is relishing the opportunity once again.
“It has been a while since I have been back with the team and I am happy to be called in to play with the boys,” Mupunga said.
“The boys have been putting in some good work and it was tough catching up with them on my first day. With the Uganda game approaching, the boys aren’t feeling the pressure, but rather a growing excitement to compete, especially seeing other teams raise their game,” he added.
The Sables kicked off their camp on the 1st of July ahead of the Africa Cup opener against Uganda in Kampala on the 20th of this month.
Zimbabwe is scheduled to play its opening match against the hosts Uganda on the 20th of July at the Kyadondo Rugby Club.
