Lomagundi College thumped Prince Edward 45-22 in their penultimate home match this Saturday as the 2024 CBZ Top Schools Rugby clashes slowly come to an exciting end.
In the serene environment on the outskirts of Chinhoyi, Lomagundi College rugby team made sure all those who made the long journey did not regret after walloping perennial campaigners Prince Edward 45-22.
The 2024 CBZ Top Schools Rugby Clashes have been a revelation with some exciting matches being dished out and this Saturday was no different as the Lomagundi College back line showed why they have been feared this season.
It was a try fest and at one point the hosts threatened to break the half century mark before Prince Edward started to show signs of life.
The hosts put in six tries, converting three while also putting away three penalties.
“We played well, the boys kept to instruction and we managed to get the job done. It is pleasing to not that we have a number of youngsters in our first team. We have a From three, a couple of Form fours and a number of Lower six students so there is a lot of continuity after this season, but credit goes to our sponsors who have managed to help us through everything,” said Lomagundi College coach, Bob Mahari.
Prince Edward High school coach, Shaun de Souza was gracious in defeat.
“Credit goes to Gundy, they played well and I think the season has basically been the way we predicted. We lost a couple of players and we knew today we were always going to be second best, but hopefully we can come back stronger next time,” he said.
Lomagundi’s second team also managed to beat Prince Edward while in the under 16s the young Tigers beat the Bisons.
In other matches St George’s edged St John’s 22-18 in an exciting match while Falcon College beat Peter House Boys 20-18.
Hillcrest overcame Allan Wilson 27-25 and Eaglesvale pipped Milton High School 6-5 in a low scoring encounter.
