Zimbabwe’s representatives in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Women’s Champions League, Herentals Queens are ready to compete with the best on the continent.
The Women’s Champions League gets underway with regional qualifiers next month.
Reigning Women Premier Soccer League champions, Herentals Queens have started preparing for the CAF Women’s Champions League, with the regional qualifiers set for Malawi next month.
The Students are not leaving anything to chance having lined up competitive matches before the tournament.
They kicked off their preparations this Wednesday with a match against a strong Harare Select side made up of Zimbabwe national women’s football team, Mighty Warriors players.
Head coach Simbarashe Deedza believes his team’s performance in the one-all draw with Harare Select has assured him of what the Queens are made of.
“Although we need to improve on our goal scoring, I’m impressed with the team’s overall performance they gave us tense which we will face at the CAF Champions League so I’m sure we are going to be competitive and bring good results. We’re heading in the right direction, and I’m confident we’ll make our mark in the Champions League,” he said.
Harare Select coach Alec Muderera echoed Deedza’s sentiments, giving credit to Herentals Queens for their determination.
“Herentals Queens has what it takes to fare well against teams from other regions, they have a good balance of experience and youth, and their teamwork is impressive.”
Zimbabwean teams are back in continental after the FIFA ban was lifted amid commitment from the World Football governing body and CAF to promote women’s football.
