Government determined to end GBV

GOVERNMENT has expressed gratitude to development partners who are complementing its spirited drive to end gender-based violence (GBV).
With the government putting in place legislative instruments to end GBV, calls are growing louder to further intensify efforts towards eradicating the vice.
Mashonaland West hosted a belated International Women’s Day commemoration, with people with disabilities noting the need for inclusion in empowerment programmes.
Empowering the girl child to be self-reliant to reduce chances of manipulation which constitutes GBV also took centre stage.
“In as much we live with disability we also want to be part of the development agenda in line with the President’s mantra of living no one and no place behind,” said one of the participants.
“As parents, we sometimes want to treat our girl children as eggs that break and in so doing we will not have them spend time on social media such as Tik Tok instead of teaching them life skills,” said a businessperson, Ms Afra Nhanhanga.
Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Marian Chombo expressed gratitude to organisations that have been supportive of initiatives to end GBV.
“We want to thank the EU for having funded initiatives that are targeted at ending GBV. Through such funding, the government has been able to come up with policies meant to end GBV,” she said.
The Second Republic has expressed commitment to ending gender-based violence through legislation and various programmes promoting gender equality and women empowerment.
