Africa Senior Athletics Championships end

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Reporter

ZIMBABWE bagged two silver medals at the 2024 Africa Senior Athletics Championships which ended in Doula, Cameroon, Wednesday evening.

At the previous edition held in Morocco, the country only managed one silver medal in the men’s relay.

Triple jumper Chengetayi Mapaya bagged the first silver before Olympics-bound Tapiwa Makarawu repeated the feat in the 200m race.

The steady improvement has delighted the coach who envisages a bright future.

“We are definitely in the right path look before the last event we had gone for 10 years without any medals then, we won bronze now, we have managed two silver medals. That means we are doing something right and we need to continue working hard to match the top countries,” said the Coach, Lisimati Phakamile.

400m hurdler Ashley Kamangira narrowly missed the podium after finishing fourth in her event as the championship concluded.

The team is expected back home this Friday.
