Ex-police officer jailed 20 years for indecent assault

Story by Tichaona Kurewa, Victoria Falls Bureau Chief

A former police officer from Hwange has been jailed for 20 years after being convicted of aggravated indecent assault.

38-year-old Nelson Tuta appeared in court facing six counts of aggravated indecent assault after he sexually assaulted three boys, two aged eight and the other 15.

Tuta, who was based at Victoria Falls Police station, was convicted after a full trial and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

He will, however, serve an effective 16 years after four years were suspended on condition of good behaviour.

The offences, believed to have occurred between October and November last year, came to light in December when one of the boys complained to his parents that the convict had not paid him after promising to give the boys a dollar each.
