Another night behind bars for two bouncers

Story by Peter Chivhima

The two bouncers who caused chaos at various joints in Harare last year on Boxing Day were back in court this Tuesday for their bail application in a case in which they are facing attempted murder charges.

Gideon Sanyangore and Blessing Kumunda were remanded in custody to this Thursday when they appeared in court this Tuesday for bail application in a case where they allegedly threatened to stab two private security guards at a Harare night spot.

The State led by Mr George Manokore opposed Sanyangore and Kumunda to being admitted to bail, submitting that they are dangerous to society.

According to the State, the fact that there is a trending video in which the bouncers were seen assaulting patrons at a night spot in Borrowdale is enough evidence that the duo had a case to answer and if admitting to bail they may flee, thereby jeopardising the wheels of justice.

The State also submitted that the behaviour shown by the bouncers represents that of the jungle which dictates that only the fittest survive, hence the duo of Sanyangore and Kumunda must find prison as their permanent home.

The bouncers tried to exonerate themselves, arguing that they wielded a knife in defence after they were attacked by the complainants.

Allegations are that on 26 December last year, Sanyangore and Kumunda allegedly threatened to stab the duo of Wilson Kaminyu and Munyaradzi Runganga who are private security guards at a night spot in Harare.

The two were arrested after a video of them threatening to stab Kaminyu and Runganga in Borrowdale, Harare and assaulting patrons, went viral on social media.

The two will be back in court this Thursday for bail ruling.
