THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission has warned the public about the rising cases of imposters masquerading as the commission’s investigating officers.
ZACC spokesperson, Commissioner Thandiwe Mlobane confirmed the development, saying the criminals are extorting money from companies and individuals under the guise of fines or penalties related to alleged corruption and protection from arrest and prosecution.
“Yes, our offices are overwhelmed with reports of people who are losing money to individuals purporting to be ZACC officers. This shows that as ZACC, we are working flat out in trying to flash out corrupt individuals. So we want to take this opportunity to warn the public to desist from engaging in corrupt activities because the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them,” said Mlobane.
The anti-graft body also distanced itself from the operations of other organisations which claim to be working with it in the fight against corruption.
“Our mandate is to investigate corruption and in doing so we are working with the ZRP so these other organisations are acting out of the law. We would like to distance ourselves from those organisations,” she added.
The warning comes after Faith Ministries International Pastor Kudzai Nyamasoka was arrested last week by ZACC officers on allegations of fraud and forgery.
It emerged in court that Nyamasoka manufactured the ZACC logo and created a letter head in which he used to warn the Mbare District Officer to desist from proceeding with the allocation of a contentious piece of land in Mbare, claiming that it was under investigations by ZACC.
