Harare trio up for fraud

Story by Peter Chivhima

THREE men from Harare have appeared in court facing allegations of duping a land developer of more than US$3 million.

The trio of Jacob Muyambo, Amos Kagona and Saymore Mutakura is being accused of defrauding Delatfin Engineering owned by Felix Munyaradzi by allegedly editing agreements of sale.

However, through their defence counsel, the co-accused turned against Munyaradzi, accusing him of sour grapes after they appeared as witnesses in his 2018 fraud court case.

The accused persons also submitted that all their transactions with Munyaradzi were above board and he is the one who must be arrested for defrauding unsuspecting home seekers.

It is the state’s case that between 2015 and 2018, the trio would edit transactions of agreements of sale that had been sold to genuine land purchasers, prejudicing Delatfin of millions of dollars.

The matter has been rolled over to Monday for the continuation of the trial.

Elsewhere, a suspected drug dealer, Simbarashe Chanachimwe, popularly known as Dama, who was arrested on Wednesday, has been freed on US$50 thousand bail after appearing at Mbare magistrate courts this Thursday.

As part of his bail conditions, Chanachimwe was ordered to report once every Friday at St Mary’s police station.

The matter was remanded to the 20th of next month for trial.
