Devolution funds transform livelihoods in Runde RDC

Story by Courage Bushe

DEVOLUTION funds that were released by the Second Republic as part of the constitutional provision for a devolved system of government have transformed the lives of communities in Runde District after the completion and opening of Marira Clinic.

Villagers from Denge, Shiku and Marira expressed gratitude to government’s people centred approach which has brought health services closer to the people.

A villager said, ‘‘We want to thank our leadership especially President Emmerson Mnangagwa for this devolution initiative because it has eased a lot of challenges that we were faced with. Imagine we no longer need to travel to Zvishavane or Mabasa for health care facilities.’’

Another villager noted, ‘‘It was difficult for use women because some of us would give birth at home but now it’s a thing of the past.”

The inflow of patients at Marira Clinic clearly affirms the importance of the health facility in the area.

Sister in charge Marira Clinic Theresa Mariba said, ‘‘People are coming and per day we can receive up to 50 patients. This shows and explains the need and importance of this facility in Marira area, thanks to the devolution funds.”

Runde Rural District Council Chairperson Councillor Mavis Mahuvava said their mandate is to fulfil government programmes and aspirations.

Mahuvava said, ‘‘Our President is a man of vision and we are very happy to be fulfilling his vision as Runde RDC by completing this clinic which we commenced construction in 2019 and finally we are here easing health challenges in our area, we are very happy.’’

The devolution programme is one of the key pillars under the National Development Strategy One as the country journeys towards 2030, while also addressing the global aspirations of Sustainable Development Goals and Africa’s Agenda 2063.
