TODAY marks 27 years after the death of Zimbabwe music great, Leonard Dembo, and for many, his legacy will live on forever.
On the 9th of April 1996, a dark cloud engulfed the nation when one of the country’s greatest musicians, Leonard Dembo breathed his last.
He might be gone but the Chitekete hitmaker is not forgotten with his songs remaining part of several music lovers’ menu.
The lead guitarist and singer of the Barura express band is famed for a number of hits including Chitekete, Venenzia, Ruva Rashe and Shiri Yakangwara.
The legend had one of his greatest hit ‘Chitekete’ played at the Miss World in 1996 before it was voted best silver jubilee song in Zimbabwe.
As part of his 27th death anniversary, a musical show has been organised at Dembo’s village in Chirumhanzi this Sunday, with musicians including his sons, Tendai and Morgan, as well as music lovers paying tribute to the departed legend of Sungura.
