BULAWAYO Chiefs women’s football team has suffered a blow, amid indications that the ambitious outfit will not participate in the Women’s Super League owing to financial challenges.
The future looks bleak for the bulk of Bulawayo Chiefs ladies’ team players who were aiming to compete in the top tier league after gaining promotion from the Southern region division without losing a match.
While other teams have started to prepare for the 2023 super league set to resume next month, it is a different story for Amakhosikazi, who are yet to begin pre-season preparations owing to financial challenges.
Bulawayo Chiefs Secretary General, Dumisani Sibanda confirmed to ZBC News in a telephone interview that they will not be participating in the Super League, owing to a combination of factors chief among them, a lack of resources.
Quizzed if they are selling their slot, Sibanda said the case rests with football authorities.
For a side, which has the bulk of players under the age of 18, Amakhosikazi were expected to be a potential challenger to powerhouses; Herentals Queens, Chapungu and Black Rhinos.
Players like Nothabo Nkabinde, Patience Ndlovu, national team trialists; Thando Sibanda, Chelsea Mutongi, Leona Arimona, Androlla Munkuli, Nomqhele Donga, Last Mlalazi and Kimberly Maseko will be hard hit with the news and now have to find new homes.
The current scenario is confirmation that all is not well within the Chiefs camp as their men’s side had a mass exodus during the just-ended transfer window.
