Rhinos looking to build on derby victory as they take on Highlanders

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

AFTER emerging with bragging rights in last weekend’s army derby, Black Rhinos are keeping their feet on the ground as they prepare for a battle against Highlanders at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The two teams usually play out to close encounters and in the last six meetings, Highlanders have won three times, while Black Rhinos have emerged victorious twice with one of the matches ending in a draw.

Last year, Black Rhinos beat Highlanders 2-0 in the first match of the season before Highlanders exerted revenge with a 3-2 win at Barbourfields Stadium in the reverse fixture.

Black Rhinos coach Stanford ‘Stix’ Mtizwa said, ‘‘We take each game as it comes and we are happy with the start that we had and we are looking forward to doing well again in the next match. It’s not easy, but the boys have confidence and confidence can do a lot for a young team.’’

Black Rhinos paraded a new-look side in their first encounter after retaining only five players from last season – Stead Mudzengerere, Prince Milanzi, Christopher Brighton, and veterans Gift Saunyama and Allan Gahadzikwa.

Highlanders will be gunning for their first victory of the season after sharing the spoils with ZPC Kariba last week.
