A 19-year-old woman from Mberengwa has appeared in court on charges of murder after allegedly killing her seven months old baby.
It is the state’s case that on the first of this month, Felistus Mpofu left home in the company of her 7-month-old daughter and went to Zvishavane where she was promised a job as a maid.
The court heard that the accused arrived in Zvishavane at around 8 o’clock in the evening and became stranded at Mandava bus terminus.
It is further alleged that Mpofu fed her baby with fresh milk mixed with an organo phosphate tablet.
At around 3 am, the accused person got accommodation at a nearby house in Mandava suburb where the baby started vomiting and her condition deteriorated.
The court was further told that a woman whom she had sought accommodation from accompanied the accused to Zvishavane District Hospital where the baby was pronounced dead upon arrival.
A police report was made leading to the arrest of Mpofu.
She is expected back in court on the 22nd of this month.
In another case, three juveniles all aged 16 and a 38- year-old woman have been arrested in Zvishavane for smoking dagga and unlawful dealing with dangerous drugs.
The three minors were caught smoking dagga by a teacher at George Chipadza Secondary School.
A police report was made and the three implicated Sibongile Masaire of Zvishavane as their supplier.
A search was conducted at Masaire’s residence where 1,35kgs of dagga were recovered.
