Dr Mushohwe buried

Story by Bruce Chahwanda, Political Editor

THE late national hero, Dr Christopher Mushohwe has been described as a brilliant scholar who committed his life to the empowerment of citizens through education.

‘A dedicated educationist’ aptly describes the Dr Mushohwe who was in charge of the Presidential Scholarship portfolio which gives opportunities to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The late national hero’s daughters spoke glowingly about their departed father saying he was a brilliant scholar.

One of his colleagues, Cde Mike Madiro and his family friend, Dr Olivia Muchena said the late national hero was a humble man who committed his life towards empowering others through education.

“We came from the same district in Mutare. We started politics together and the nation has lost a dedicated cadre,” said Cde Madiro.

“He helped a number of Zimbabweans through the scholarship portfolio, he was an honest man,” Dr Muchena noted.

ZANU PF Politburo member, Dr Simbarashe Mumbengegwi said the late national hero was a selfless son of the soil.

“We enrolled together for a leadership course at the University of Zimbabwe and our relationship dates way back even before we joined politics,” he said.

The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said they worked well with the departed hero in government and in ZANU PF.

“He was a dedicated civil servant and in all his portfolios, he led with distinction,” she said.

Senator Mutsvangwa also said the late Dr Mushohwe will be remembered for his love for Zimbabwe and passion for education where he was at the helm of the administration of the Presidential Scholarship Programme.

Dr Mushohwe also served in government as Minister of Transport and Communications, Governor and Resident Minister for Manicaland province, and Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services.

He is survived by his wife Penelope Batsirai, eight children and six grandchildren.
