THE ongoing Zimbabwe Republic Police anti-drug abuse campaign has netted more than 50 drug peddlers in Manicaland Province in just four days.
AT least 54 drug peddlers have been arrested in Manicaland Province since the launch of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) anti-drug abuse campaign which started on the 6th of this month.
ZRP Officer Commanding Manicaland Province, Commissioner Priscila Makotose confirmed the development, adding that varying amounts of drugs and elicit substances have been recovered.
“So far, ZRP Manicaland province has made 54 arrests. The accused were found with varying amounts of dangerous drugs comprising 1015 plants of dagga, 67 sachets of dagga, 21,2 grammes of crystal meth, sex-enhancing tablets, Broncleer, Benylun codeine as well as injection syringes and lighters among others. Today, we have arrested these six that are going to be taken to court,” she said.
Commissioner Makotose also called for community support as the operation to curb drug and substance abuse continues.
“We are appealing for all the communities within Mutare and Manicaland Province as well as the whole nation to report such cases. This will help to eradicate drug abuse in our nation. Our operation will continue until we bring sanity within the province. The operation can only be successful if we have but-in and support from the public. We want to save our nation,” she added.
The launch of the campaign against drug abuse compliments a number of initiatives that are being put in place to curb the vice which is robbing the country of the critical youth dividend in national development.
