The National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) has extended its calendar with the first-ever triangular series set to begin in April.
After extending a sponsorship deal with Baldmin Holdings this Thursday, the local athletics mother body has stretched out the events calendar with a new version of track and field competitions.
Under the plan, the Triangular series will begin in April followed by three events in Mashonaland Central, Harare and Bulawayo.
The three-leg event is set to honour former athletes and administrators.
NAAZ president Tendai Tagara said, “We are happy to announce that we will be having a triangular series which is a three-leg event. These legs have been given special names in honour of our former Athletics administrators and heroes. So the leg in Mashonaland central will be called Artwell Mandaza triangular series in honouring the late athlete, we will be honouring one of our top administrators which is Robert Mutsauki for the leg in Harare, while the Bulawayo leg will be in honour of sponsor Costar Takawira.”
The association will also host the 10000m track and field event for men and women in March.
Revival of the Shabhani Mine track and field event where clubs from the mines will be battling for honours is another key highlight of the sporting calendar.
Meanwhile, the events serve as a roadmap in preparing athletes to qualify for the World Championships that will be held in Budapest in August.
