Despite some familiar problems resurfacing, the Zimbabwe senior men’s cricket team, the Chevrons, continued with their progress after securing a 2-1 T20 series victory over Ireland.
The victory meant that the Chevrons have won two consecutive T20 series for the first time in five years.
However, even though the team is doing well, top order batsmen continue to struggle with the youngsters failing to step up.
“It’s a tricky situation for the team. Results are coming, but there are a few blemishes which need to be fixed early on. The top order continues to struggle and the youngsters who have been given a chance in that department have failed to take it – Marumani, Kaitano, Milton Shumba – all struggling to score. The middle order can’t keep bailing out the team and it needs to be fixed soon,” cricket expert Dean du Plessis says.
Zimbabwe and Ireland have since shifted focus to the three-match One Day International series which gets underway on Wednesday at the Harare Sports Club.
