The Acting President, General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga this Thursday visited the Vatican Embassy in Harare to convey a message of condolence and sign a book of condolences following the death of Pope Benedict XVI.
In an interview after signing the book, the Acting President described the late Pope Benedict XVI as a man of cloth who will be remembered for his unwavering commitment towards poverty alleviation and advancement of peace.
Acting President Chiwenga noted, ‘‘It is a sad moment for losing the Pope, and on the other hand, we should celebrate a lifelong servant to the Catholic Church and humanity. On behalf of His Excellency President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, the government, the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe and on my behalf, I would like to convey our most since condolences following the passing of his Holiness Pope Benedict XVI.’’
The late Pope Benedict XVI died on New Year’s Eve at the age of 95 and will be buried this Thursday at the Vatican in Rome.
