The Zimbabwe Under -20 Handball team has intensified preparations for the inaugural African championships slated for Congo Brazzaville next month.
The team made history after becoming the first local handball team to qualify for the continental showpiece.
They also achieved the milestone in spectacular fashion after a clean sweep at the Zone Six Handball Federation tournament where they clinched gold.
The team has shifted focus to the continental showpiece which gets underway on the 16th of next month.
ZHF secretary general Edison Chiroodza said, “The under-20 team already began their preparations but now they are on the festive season break and will resume camp on the sixth of January till departure for championships. We are looking forward and organising with the Zambia national team for a friendly match in order to shape up the team before the team departs for Congo Brazzaville.”
Zimbabwe will compete against Congo Brazzaville, Rwanda, Guinea, Nigeria and Madagascar.
The tournament also serves as the qualifier for next year’s World Youth Championships in Australia.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Handball Federation is set to host the All Africa Games qualifiers, Women’s Junior Regional tournament and the Beach games qualifiers.
