Zimbabwe has announced a 15-member squad for the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup slated for South Africa next month.
After qualifying for the tournament via the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers held in the United Arab Emirates in September, the Young Lady Chevrons had sound preparations which included a tour in India.
The Zimbabwe Under -19 Women’s team is now preparing for the girls’ first-ever global tournament from the 14th to the 29th of January in South Africa.
The technical team under Coach Trevor Phiri announced a 15-member delegation which will be led by 17-year-old Kelis Ndhlovu and Michelle Mavunga who have senior caps.
Ndlovu was top of the wicket-taking charts at the Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier earlier in the year, with 11 at an average of 9.36 and an economy of just 5.72.
Away from the duo renowned to be the backbone of the team the young lady chevrons will be boosted by the Ndiraya twins Kay and Kelly alongside their elder sister Ashley, a powerful bowler.
15-year-old all-rounder Tawananyasha Marumani, a sister to Tadiwanashe who plays for the Chevrons, will also feature in the squad.
Zimbabwe were drawn in pool B alongside Rwanda, England and Pakistan.
They will begin their group stage campaign with a tough encounter against England on the 15th of January before taking on continental rivals Rwanda two days later while the last group match is against Pakistan on the 19th.
The top 3 teams from each group will progress to the Super Six.
