Three suspects have appeared in court facing charges of murder after allegedly stabbing a vendor in Harare’s Avenues area on Boxing Day.
Sala Kudzanai Chindundundu, John Chiutera and Tinotenda Zemba are accused of stabbing Tobias Mwanyeya who operated as a vendor in the Avenues area with a knife after a dispute over change.
Circumstances are that on the 26th of this month, the suspects bought four cigarettes and a banana from the now deceased using a one US dollar note.
It is alleged that a misunderstanding arose after Mwanyeya gave them ZW$200 as change.
It is further alleged that the suspects demanded ZW$400, but Mwanyeya explained that their change was ZW$200.
The court also heard that the suspects started assaulting the now deceased with open hands and stabbed him five times with a knife.
It is alleged that Mwanyeya died on the spot and the accused fled from the scene.
The three were arrested this Tuesday while seeking cleansing services from an unidentified prophet.
They were remanded in custody until this Thursday and advised to approach the High Court for bail.
