Zim gets nod to host 2023 Tennis tournament

ZIMBABWE has been accorded a rare opportunity to host the 2023 edition of the Junior Africa Tennis Championships set for the Harare Sports Club from the 6th to the 16th of January next year.

Team Zimbabwe will ride on both home advantage and last year’s relative success in the Africa Junior Championships, which saw one of the under 14 teams reaching the finals when the annual tennis extravaganza roars into life in the capital next month.

Tennis Zimbabwe Board Member, Tarwirwa Chikunichawa said the board is on cloud nine after being accorded an opportunity to host the tennis showpiece.

“As Tennis Zimbabwe, we will be hosting the African Junior Championships zonal from the 6th to the 16th of January. The categories that will be participating are the under fourteen and sixteen both boys and girls .for Zimbabwe well it’s an honour to be given such an opportunity as it gives our players an opportunity to compete without meeting travelling costs. Tennis Zimbabwe is going through restructuring and rebranding so this is a huge milestone for us,” he said.

Team Zimbabwe is expected to be officially announced by the 28th of this month.

“We look forward to a good show. We had some of our players featuring at the just ended J5 tournament as well as the Region v games. So we will leverage on that. We want continuous play for our players,” he added.

As the hosts, Zimbabwe were given six slots per age group in the tennis tournament, which comes in two formats, the individual and team competitions.
