Stakeholders in the tourism and wildlife conservancy sector have welcomed the recent announcement by local airline, Fastjet, to operate scheduled flights into Hwange National Park Airport.
Commencing March 2023, the airline will introduce a new route from Harare and Victoria Falls to Kariba Airport and Hwange National Park Airport.
“It’s a major boost and we are extremely excited so that we lessen the burden of our tourists travelling from Harare. Flying creates convenience in travelling and that’s what tourists want,” said Zimparks spokesperson, Tinashe Farawo.
Painted Dog Conservancy Operations Manager David Kuvawoga said, “We welcome the flying into Hwange National Park by Fastjet. Connectivity has always been an issue and with this development, we are excited for our tourism sector which is the core of Hwange National Park.”
The planned additional routes to the airline’s domestic route will go through travellers’ destinations of Kariba and Hwange, with scheduled flight connections using a 30-seater Embraer E120.
According to the airliner in a statement, this is a continued demonstration of its commitment to the growth of tourism and the sustainability of air services in the markets it serves.
