Women political inclusion under spotlight

Story by Tambaoga Gora

Women in political leadership positions have been challenged to lead in cultivating an enabling environment for more females to enter the male-dominated space.

THIS FRIDAY, ZANU PF Women’s League national chairperson, Cde Mable, graced the Mashonaland West 2022 annual show prize-giving ceremony in Chinhoyi where she commended the ruling party for championing gender equity in political participation.

She challenged women in political leadership to be exemplary.

“Women are important. Our President is proud of us, so let us not betray him. When you are in leadership, stand up and champion development. Before independence, women were not even allowed to open a bank account, but the ruling party has now recognised us as human beings. We didn’t have identification documents, but the government has recognized us. Let us support each other as women,” she said.

ZANU PF Mashonaland West chairperson, Cde Mary Mliswa, stressed that the ruling party has confidence in its female leadership.

She said, “The president appointed 6 female Provincial Ministers of State including myself, and he expressed confidence in women.”

Mashonaland West ZANU PF Provincial Women’s League chairperson, Cde Constance Shamu said the show helps in skills identification among women.

“These shows help us to know the skills within our members so that we can fully support them,” she said.

Outstanding participants walked away with various prizes including sewing machines and kitchen utensils.

The show was held under the theme, ‘Political, Social and Economic Empowerment for Every Woman by 2030’.
