Story by ZBC Reporter

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa says Zimbabwe’s Open for Business mantra has gained traction as more and more investments are coming into the country.

He said this as the mining sector celebrated yet another milestone at the ground-breaking ceremony for Sabi Star Lithium Mine in Buhera, meanwhile, the government is convinced that such developments will transform the economy and propel the country towards attaining vision 2030.

Vice President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga said Zimbabwe is attracting more investments as local and international investors stampede to get a piece of the cake.

“This marks a milestone achievement in the quest to grow our economy. Lithium is used to produce batteries. The company should create synergies with the energy sector to ensure stability.

There is no doubt that the country has created a conducive investment environment. This has resulted in several investments in the lithium sector. I hope that the project will not only benefit the government and investors but will also benefit the local community.”

The local community has already started benefitting from the mine and the government is determined to continuously transform people’s lives.

“This event of the culmination of determination by the government of Zimbabwe and investors to improve the national economy. This will grow the provincial and national GDP,” said Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere, Manicaland Minister of State and Devolution.

“This place was very poor as it is drought-prone and with this development, the President has been able to attract this huge development that is transforming lives. A positive development has already started to be realised with the company assisting in the provision of water and rehabilitation of roads among others. Buhera is posited for accelerated development as the country implements the devolution agenda,” said Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.

“Our president is an able leader who values unity and peace. A peaceful country attracts investments,” said Honourable Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairs.

The Sabi Star Mine lithium project will also see the construction of a 15-megawatt thermal plant to sustain operations with excess energy being fed into the national grid.
