A church service for the late national heroine, Cde Betty Mtero has been held at the Borrowdale Methodist church in Harare.
Congregates, relatives and friends converged this Wednesday in honour of the late national heroine, Cde Mtero, who was an active member of the church.
“She was a very active member and would participate in all the programmes of the church so we decided to pay our last respect to her at this church where she served,” said Methodist Church in Zimbabwe’s
Bishop Edmore Chihota.
“Mum was always spiritually associated with this church so that is why we held this service before her body will lie in state at her Glen Lorne home,” said Mr Darlington Mtero the family spokesperson.
Meanwhile, all is set for the burial of Cde Mtero at the National Heroes Acre in Harare this Thursday, with the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Mr Aron Nhepera confirming that all the logistics are in place.
“Preparations are progressing very well. The burial programme will be starting at 10 am and we expect people to be seated by 8 am. President Emmerson Mnangagwa will preside over the ceremony,” he said.
Cde Mtero died at the age of 92 on December 6, after a long illness and is survived by three children and five grandchildren.
