CHITUNGWIZA Central hospital has become the first choice for patients from around the country in need of orthopaedic treatment ranging from minor surgeries to total hip replacements.
Some are coming from as far as Mt Darwin, Nyanga and Hurungwe, all in search of the best orthopaedic services at affordable prices and Chitungwiza central hospital has proven to be the best destination for most of these patients.
The majority are victims of road traffic accidents who are satisfied with the treatment they are getting at the hospital.
“I was involved in a road traffic accident along the Harare bindura road, I spent a month at a hospital in Bindura before they discharged me because they said they cannot treat me because my injuries are severe. Someone told me to come here to Chitungwiza central hospital, I got here on Sunday and got into the theatre and the doctors say the operation was successful and am now on the road to recovery.
“I had a freak accident when I was in the fields at my home in Nyanga, I fell and fractured my arm. Ever since I came here I have been getting the best treatment.
“Mine was a case of a hit and run, I was hit by a mshika shika. I suffered two fractures one on the thigh and one on the leg. I didn’t have any money but they agreed to treat me while my family look for money. The staff here has been very friendly,” said patience who spoke to the ZBC News crew.
According to the Acting Clinical Director, Dr Raphael Makota who is also an Orthopaedic surgeon the health institution is one of the facilities offering total replacement surgeries in the country.
“We have an average of 20 to 30 patients admitted for Orthopaedics at any point in time. Some of the operations that we do include fixing the fima, thigh bone, and most of the bones actually and we also conduct total hip replacements,” said Dr Makota.
Apart from Orthopaedic services, the hospital offers a wide range of specialist services which include obstetrics and gynaecology.
