Zimbabwe a beacon in Southern Africa, says UN representative

Story by Political Editor, Bruce Chahwanda

UNITED Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Zimbabwe, Dr Edward Kallon says Zimbabwe is a key economic and political pillar for the Southern Africa region, hence the need for necessary support towards the country’s development aspirations.

Dr Kallon paid a courtesy call on ZANU PF Secretary for Administration, Dr Obert Mpofu at the party headquarters in Harare this Tuesday.

Dr Kallon said Zimbabwe is a beacon in the Southern Africa region hence the need to support its development agenda.

“We had a productive engagement with ZANU PF principals which enabled me to appreciate the politics of Zimbabwe, I still believe Zimbabwe is a promise to Southern Africa and the necessary actions are required for Zimbabwe to reproduce itself,” he said.

Dr Mpofu disclosed that they discussed various issues, which impact positively on the development of the country.

“We discussed several issues that have a huge bearing on the development of Zimbabwe,” Dr Mpofu said.

This comes at a time when the ZANU PF-led government has made huge strides in fostering development across the country.
