Reconstruction works at the Harare-Beitbridge highway progressing well

Story by Tafara Chikumira

THE rehabilitation of the Beitbridge-Harare Highway is on course with some portions that needed special attention being attended to.

Some parts of the highway near Mvuma needed more time and they are now being worked on much to the delight of motorists who attest to the second republic’s commitment to transform the nation through the implementation of such major infrastructure projects.

“This is indeed the Zimbabwe we all want. Previously, one would need to move with more than one spare wheel as we were assured of problems on this road. The progress is highly commendable as we can now visit our loved ones with ease, especially during this festive season.

“As a motorist, I can’t help but marvel at the good works going on here. We are just praying that these contractors finish their work in time so that we can enjoy the smooth drive we are already experiencing in some parts of this road.

“I have been driving on this road for more than 10 years now as a truck driver. This is the first time that I am feeling hopeful about the future of this highway. I want to thank my President and his team for all these efforts,” said motorists who spoke to the ZBC News crew.

The government targets to open up to 420 kilometers on the Harare–Beitbridge Highway to traffic by the end of this year as the 580-kilometer project nears completion.
